Elle King was born in Los Angeles to-then Saturday Night Live cast member Rob Schneider, and London King, a former international model. After their divorce, her mom remarried and moved Elle to Ohio. Her stepdad got her into the bluegrass music of Otis Redding and Hank Williams. By the age of 13, King was writing her own songs. By the age of 16, she started a residency at the now closed Spike Hill between North 7th and Bedford avenue.
